The IT of the simulator center is ISO27001 certified!

July 11, 2018

For the operation of the general IT infrastructure environment, an information security management system according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 27001 was implemented at KSG Kraftwerks-Simulator-Gesellschaft mbH in Essen in record time of six months and certified by an accredited certification company.
KSG mbH is part of the company group Das Simulatorzentrum KSG|GfS on the energy campus in Essen-Kupferdreh. Other companies on the energy campus in the German energy capital Essen are GfS – Gesellschaft für Simulatorschulung mbH, VGB PowerTech e.V. and Kraftwerksschule.
The energy industry is one of the critical infrastructures which, in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and the Federal Network Agency, must by certified according to an IT security catalogue

  • pursuant to section 11 (1a) of the Energy Industry Act for grid operators
  • pursuant to section 11 (1b) of the Energy Industry Act for Energy Systems

above a certain threshold value. Reference is also made here to the IT Security Act and the so-called Kritis Ordinance.

Although the simulator center is not subject to any certification requirements, we have undergone certification according to ISO/IEC 27001 in order to set an example and help other companies in the energy world.
The energy industry is a highly complex world in which standard solutions cannot help. The simulator center is available as a competent partner and underlines its quality and safety requirements with the newly acquired certification according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 27001.

We thank all employees involved for their commitment in making this certification possible, as well as the lead auditor responsible for the certification process for the excellent cooperation.
